how many miles on the suspension. Springs get soft and shocks wear out. Bushings wear too. A good visual inspection is a good way to start, look for dried out, cracked or missing rubber parts. A lot of time they wear off to one side too.

Here's a good way to tell. Fill up the tank, and get behind the car while it's on a flat and even parking spot. Get down on your knees or stomach, and look straight back at the rear end.
Do the half shaft angle down to the wheels, are they parallel with the horizon, or do they angle up to the wheels.
If they angle up at the wheels at all, past horizontal, then you have problems.
