No Choke ???
Has anyone tried running a Q jet without a choke? I am in the Atlanta area, which is generally not too cold in the winter. The vette stays in the heated and air conditioned shop, so starting out on a cold day should not be an issue. I am a bit concerned about starting after leaving it outside the grocery store for an hour on a 40 degree day...or colder sometimes!!

I kind of disabled mine on my 81 stock carb. It was sticking badly high R's and flowling out my plugs.... So i went to work on it, I was surprised to see that on this carb you can not adjust the choke from the little spring set up like on the older carbs. So I drilled the rivets that held the spring choke in place and adjusted it and it kept sticking, so I just adjusted it so it would not work at all.... It was ment to be a short run fix, but I have never went back just because it runs fine. I live in MI so it gets cold and when the car is cold i start it and give it some gas keepin the R's at about 1,000 for about 10 sec, then it idles fine. Its not as nice as having the choke and one of these days if i find the time i will go back and see what the real problem is. So if your choke works fine I would leave it because it just makes life easier.
