Default 81 Air Pump Removal

I am thinking about removing the air pump from my 81. I've read several post about being careful with removing smog stuff on a computer controled car. Is there anything special I need to do to the car if I plan on eleminating the Air Pump? I do not have to worry about an emission test any longer so that won't be a problem. Thanks for any and all info.

I removed all of my smog equipment on my 81 vette and I didnt really have a problem. The only thing that is kind of annoying is the baby blue braket that holds the smog pump on just kinda sticks out there, and looks bad. I took mine off but you need to get some different bolts... you dont have to do this you can jsut leave it on i just didnt like it. Also if you take the hoses off that go to the exhaust manifolds the metal part is just kind of out there. Which can be eliminated with some new headers . But I had no problem with the computer after doing this car runs great... better with it off. Taking it off also "cleans" the engine bay up so you can actually see the engine and not just hoses.

Thanks for the info. When you say that you removed all of the smog stuff, can you give me an idea of everything that was removed? There are a couple of vacumn switches one right behind the air pump and another to the rear of the carb. Sorry I have no idea what they are called. Should these be removed too?
