A few months ago I installed a stage II B & M shift improver kit (street/strip). Followed directions to the letter, removed the large spring they tell you to, drilled the valve body plate as directed, etc, etc. New filter & tranny fluid of course. Everything was kept clean on reassembly.
Now, it takes about 5 to 7 seconds for reverse to engage. All forward gears engage immediately. This is whether it is hot or cold. Fluid level is full.
What did I do wrong?
The shifts are great now and my only issue is the reverse issue.
Before I installed the kit, all gears engaged immediately.
sorry can't give a specific answer, but generally, all of the valve spools have to move in the bores with essentially no resistance. it may take a little piece of 2000 grit paper or fine stone on an edge or burr to get the spools to slide without any catch. all parts, spools and bores have to be spotlessly clean. after doing above, if one sticks a little, rap valve body with plastic end of screwdriver till it moves freely. don't know if this is your problem, but just to let you know that they can be that way sometimes . . .

Thanks for the imput. I'll probably pull the pan to reclean and check.
When I did my Transgo kit I found a burr on a supplied valve. Before I re-assembled I checked the movement and found it was hanging up. The slightest nick can cause a problem. It may eventually work its way free.

I just put the cheapee shift improver kit in, but my valve might have gotten some crud or a nick on it.....I'll check.
