I just received a letter from Sears saying that they are recalling their DieHard Security Battery because some customers had concerns about the ease of operation of both the anti-theft and power saver functions. Some customers have reported experiencing engine stalls during operation of their vehicle.
Sears will replace your DieHard Security battery with a DieHard Gold battery of equivalent size and will refund to you the difference in price. That sucks. So do I keep my security battery which I really like or do I exchange it for the Gold battery?
 :mad
I'm keeping mine. Just because some bozo can't read and follow directions to set up the battery, Sears is having a recall...unbelievable.
Battery works just fine, and if you keep the clicker in your pocket and accidentally it engages the security function, sure it will shut the battery off. C'mon folks, let's use some common sense here.....
I wonder what the specific problems were and if they were caused by defective batteries or defective brains! I never tried turning the battery off while operating the car. I thought I read that it would NOT shut the car off while the engine was running, which to me was a negative for the security battery if I could not use the remote as an emergency turnoff switch in theory I would still need to install a physical cutoff switch. I also know it is VERY easy to forget to turn the battery on, then try to start the car - of course the car will actually start but stall after 3 - 5 seconds. That is how the security feature is designed to work. I wonder if morons were forgetting to turn the battery on before they start the car????
I have not received the recall letter yet. Mine is working as advertised and I like it a LOT! I usually shut it off completely by pushing the built-in button on top of the battery. MJ
red73 just keep your battery until something goes wrong i work for sears auto just keep the letter though... the main problem was in the battery and remote when someone had a nice big viper alarm etc.. it would make the battery go crazy and they didnt design the battery to work in conjuction with vehicle alarms it was supposed to be used as one itself.....so if u dont have a extra after market alarm i think everyone will be ok, the remotes do die from time to time and were taking those off the shelves so that can be the only problem that i see in the future... so the choice is yours if you want the difference between the two batteries now would be the time... a GOLD is $79.99 depending on when you bought your security battery the latest price was $149.99 so the difference would be around $70.00 and some change.. and one more thing the DIEHARD batteries are not made by EXIDE or DELCO sears changed around with those companies for a couple of years to see if they could make as good of a battery as are previous company which is now the present JOHNSON CONTROLS which seem to be the best for us i hope this helps everyone  :flag

As for the Optimas, the red is for your car. The yellow is for you RV or trolling motor.
Don't try to switch the two,
I have had the same red one in my Jeep for 8 years now ( used to eat the wet batts. every 6 months).
redc3vette1, thanks for the information concerning the battery. I decided last night that I wasn't going to swap the battery until it dies. It's a great idea and maybe they just need better disclaimers concerning what the battery will or will not work with. Rod
Mine has performed flawlessly for 18 months and I consider it one of the cleverest products I've ever bought for a car. They'll have to come get mine if they want it back!
Geesh! That figures! Somebody makes a product that solves your problems, then some idiots complain and it's GONE!
I LOVE my Security battery! They'll NEVER get mine back.
:chevy :chevy
No DIEHARD battery for me period.I bought them only for all my cars since
the late fifties and since Delco no longer makes them they are not worth a
piddlers s--t. DELCO for me now although they are like buying gold not lead
plated batteries. :D
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Re: DieHard Security Battery Recall (Red73)
redc3vette1 --> Why can't they just refund the money to the people who are having problems and make the problem an advertising feature ( that's what we do when we find a bug in our software, we call it a new feature ). :D
The battery should be advertisied as a stand alone theft deterrent system with no need to buy more expensive alarms. This is a much better solution than getting rid of what I consider the smartest product to come along in a while. Now I can see Sears will not back there guarantee anymore either I suppose.
Also are you saying that you won't be able to get another remote for the battery if yours fails?
