who do u recomend?
Unless it's something that is just plain impossible for me to do because it's WELL beyond my abilities to learn or the tools required are too expensive to justify purchasing my Vettes won't see the inside of a mechanics shop again.
sorry, I know it's not the answer you are looking for but with owning an older car you may have to come to the realization that MOST mechanics you will find anymore haven't a clue how to work on older motors.
Unless the car has a diagnostic port they can plug their test equipment into to be told what the problem is and what module they need to replace they are clueless let along understand things like a vacuum advance system, point distributor, carbs, etc. Most mechanics you come across weren't even born when our cars were around and the older guys that did know how to work on them are retired or gone.
I work at a car dealership (in sales) and take my Vettes in and do oil changes, etc when i'm off because it's easier to do it at work using the lifts than jacking the cars up in my garage at home and when I have one of the cars there almost all the mechanics start hanging around watching what I'm doing and asking questions because on the older cars they are clueless.
I've only started working on my own Vettes just over a year now and I still know more than most mechanics I've come across when it comes to things on the older cars.
On the other hand I'm clueless how to do ANYTHING on the daily drivers (modern cars!) that my wife and I have so I happily answer the guys questions about my Vettes to keep them happy so they will do a good job when I need anything done on the DD cars.
