Auto Shift Boot?

If you're talking about an automatic tranny and the boot that keeps the road sand out of the workings under the car, then I had the same issue and had to replace the entire cable which comes with the booth attached. I believe DR rebuild and corvette Mid America have this stuff ---- but not cheap --- around $160 if I remember correctly. Can't buy boot separately to my knowledge, but maybe you can "bubba" something cheaply to do the trick

Shifter cable part no 3958079 for my 69 can be had from GM parts direct for 50.77 plus shipping. That is the one I used when I swapped my tranny. New GM piece in the GM bag. GM list is 85.00. Not sure if the same for your 81. GL
