ok so i dont have an ac or heater(cause the core blew) i dont have the pop up head lights and my underhood start doest work so im thinkin about pullin these out. im not usre bout vacume things so let me know if im doin the right thing...i wanna clean up my engine bay cause it look like crap.
oh my windsheild water thing doestn work so yea i dont need that..
You can remove you A/C stuff no problem, and it won't affect your vacuum unless you pull out the heater hose control valve or the line that goes to the air vent on the side.
If you remove something that has a vacuum feed, just cap that line and that's all there is to it. It cleans up well without the heater hoses and A/C lines.
Well, ya know, here is a thought, How about fixing it?
Be carefull just ripping stuff out, california is a smog state so a lot of the Vacume stuff in there will be required

what about the electrical wires? what do i do with them? oh what is part of the ac? that silver thingy (looks like a ***) i can yank that out?

The only electrical wire that would be cut out with the A/C is the compressor clutch wire. It can be loomed for future use or snipped at the harness.
These hoses can be removed by removing the A/C and heater cores in the housing, or by cutting the rubber hoses at the firewall. One is just harder than the other.
If you are wanting to clean up all the other sections of wiring I suggest re-routing what you can to clean things up, then looking it in black tape or some kind of looming kit. Then use screw down loops or zip ties to complete the cleanup.
For sure don't start snipping wires unless you know what it is and that you don't use it anymore.
db good ideas
74batmobile, you can clean up the engine bay for now and still allow for future reinstallation. the a/c hoses would be replaced anyway, so just be careful when removing. cover exposed ends of evaporator and condensor connections unless you plan to replace those in the future too.
the tan wire and its connecting wiring can be wound up and zip tied under the pass fender. the factory didn't make this wire long enough and if you ever fix, you can extend and add a weatherpak connector under the fender.
you can pull the orange hoses going to the heater core.
there are a gagle of wires running over the pass valve cover-don't know where yours are going, but al of the factory wires can be layed against the firewall. exception: there are some wires on that side that run to a thermostatic switch in the block i think. those could be wrapped in the harness (need to follow through with rest of that system-can't recall from memory) if you re-wrap wiring, leave the fusible links exposed like factory, e.g., the short wire with heavy black insulators.
some wiring that looks non-factory actually is, like the a/c. the factory didn't wrap these. if they had, e.g., the power wire for the blower would have jumped across two harnesses and prevented easy maintenance later. you have your choice of options what to do now.
even though the starter override may not be functional if you have "worked" on the interior seat belts, you can just unplug, polish till looks like chrome and reinstall. it'll look good. to clean up that wiring (the right way) means pulling those harnesses out of the car.
one suggetion: leave the windhsield water lines for now. you can fix or install a later style electric pump. if you remove hoses, plug the holes in the firewall for safe measure. while not very likely, engine air will have a path to the vent on the pass side however diluted. even i'll admit that's nit picking, but you are "cleaning" it up . . .
oh, and the vacuum hoses can be redone/rerouted to look better than factory-cheap to do. the dist chrome is missing; if you have and reinstall, it cleans things up, otherwise it takes a few bucks.
THis was a good thread for me to, I am in CA and have a '74. I have already started taking off my SMOG equip and will be removing the A/C too, it currently doesn't work, and I figure I'm in cali if Im driving I will have the windows down and the T-tops off. So who needs a/c...
well the car came with an ac(not installed but guy gave it to me) i had this boday /machanic shop intall it for me but when i got the car back and turned it on it didnt work i took it to my machanic and he told me the compresser or what not wasnt there.......i went back to the shop and saw my thing laying on the floor as a door stoeper.....i got what i coulud ot of it...but said forget it i cause i live in cali and wen i want cold air just role the windows down.. i curently dont have it any more.....oh my windsheil washer fliuiid ting doesnt wornk at all so i just pulle out the housing.
it cant be cracked i just had those put ina year ago
I agree it looks cracked. Have a close peek at it with a flashlight. Then, start the motor at night when it's dark and have no lights on. See if you can see any combustion light.
