Hi, I currently have a 385 fast burn crate motor in my 71' and I was going to install the LT4 hot cam kit to make a ZZ430 clone, My question is to anybody who has performed this upgrade before, what parts are used in the kit because I know some of the parts in the hot cam kit are already in the 385 fast burn motor?
Fastburns already have LT4 valve springs so you should be able to drop in the hot cam no problem. With 1.5 rockers you get about .495 lift, with 1.6 rockers you get .525 lift.
Hi, one more question for everybody. I am currently running synthetic oil (Mobil 1 5W 30), and I was told once I install the LT4 hot cam kit I should change back to regular non-synthetic Mobil 1 10W 30 for a proper cam break in procedure?
Is there any truth to why I should change to non-synthetic?
Get a can of GM EOS break in lube if your really worried and dump it into the oil, or use Shell Rotella T. As for the oil afterwards, just use what youve been using.
I've always been told to use regular oil to break in as well. I don't know...I just do it and then swap to my amsoil.
I did a ZZ430 clone in my Camaro. Great motor for the money! Drove the car on the Hot Rod Power Tour a few years back from Milwaukee to Kissimmee Fla in sweltering heat with the A/C and still got 18 MPG with a 700R4 installed. Motor ran flawlessly.
