Default Dead Battery Issue

Battery keeps going dead after a week. Never had this problem until I installed Hood Light. Hood light does not stay on with hood in the down position. Hood light does come on when hood is raised.

I thought the old battery was shot, so I installed a new optima last week, car ran fine. One week later car won't start.

I guess I need to put a meter on the battery and find what is sucking the life out of it. Just wwas wondering if anyone had a problem with hood light draining baterry.

Thanks for the help

About the only thing that could be wrong with it ti cause that is if it was shorted to ground. I just took mine apart and cleaned and painted it, figured out how it works. Its just a mercury switch in the base of the lamp socket.
Go ahead with the amp meter in line with the battery and lets see what ua have.

So first you installed a hood light and when you had battery problems you replaced it with an Optima?

I would disconnect the hood light switch, and see if the battery holds a charge longer than it does with the hood light wired up.

Also, running that hood light through a relay triggered by that switch might be a good idea.

The old battery was 4 year old and while restoring the car we ran the battery dead many times, so I knew there wasn't much life left in the battery. that is why I changed it. Also I did want a battery in the car that held acid. Fiberglass and acid don't mix well.

I am going to disconnect the hood light switch and see what happens

1) If installing a hood light caused it.................
2) They sell an inline switch for them that plugs right in.
3) Acid does not affect fiberglass.
4) Optimas, and all storage batterys contain acid.

Common problem here on the C3 forum. It would be a waste of time to type this again as there is plenty good info already in the archives.
