Default Bubba Electrical Question

I have no spark on my stock 350 L-48. Have 12 volts going up to the distributor-no problem there. Replaced the coil (which wasnt bad). Now the question is where is the module? Is that the little thingy in the distributor that has a yellow and green wire going to it? Any tricks to changing it?(Never done one). Hopefully that will get me going again.............. :smash:

Yes, the module is in the distributor. I happen to have in my hand the distributor to a 1980 L-48.
The module is under the rotor, and yes it does have a yellow and green wire going into it.
To replace, remove cap and rotor. Then just remove the 2 screws holding in the module.
When replacing the module, there should be some heat sink compound that comes with it. This compound MUST be used between the new module and the base of the distributor. Clean off the old gunk first.

Post if you have more questions.

Sometimes a failing module can be coaxed into working again by knocking on the base of the distributor with a suitable metal object. I tap up on the base with a tire iron. Even though you may need a new one, it can get you going at the time as well as confirm the intermitent problem. On an HEI dist, if you have power to the dist, and still no spark, more often its the module that is the culprit. Avoid the super cheapo modules. Ive had those type go bad in less then a year!!

Also, clean the dist plate before installing and make sure to use the grease like stuff between the dist plate and module. A new module should come in the box with a small tube of this special stuff. The purpous of this stuff im told is to help aid in heat transfer to keep the module cooler.
