HELP! Lower control arm support brackets need welding
I thought I might put this out there and see if anyone knows the answer. I have a 75 and decided to rebuild the front end. After removing the lower control arms I noticed that the rear supports were welded by RAY CHARLES LOL. It sould be against the law to sell mig welders to people who do not know how to weld. The bottom line is I need the brackets for the top. He welded only one side of them and they are cracked on the other side now. Why would he only weld one side? I wish I knew. Also he has enough weld to hold the whole engine up on one side. I am a welder and Heavy Equipment Mechanic so cutting the old ones off won't be a problem. I have seen alot of people out there with this problem. It's not a Hot Rod. Also it does not have a power house engine in it. It is lucky to be putting out maybe 275 horse.
All of your suggestions will be helpfull. I have found a lot of information out on this board.... Keep up the good work guys....
From the factory, those brackets (both parts) are not welded well.
You should be able to buy the parts from catalog vendors.
I'd suggest the gussets and full weld on the lower brackets, too.
