i have those on mine, the tubes are just a press fit,but i put some mounting paste around the collector before i pushed them togheter..
I mounted the brackets for the pipes on the side of the frame behind the Rocker panel that got them as high and close to the car as possible..
here is a pic of how close they are:

Not to thread jack or anything, but can you have the side pipes mounted and have the rockers still on?

I weld a boss on each piece to pull them together. I also make custom brackets to mount them to the frame and move them out a little more than the set above. The extra room allows for some cooling and keep the rocker panels from cooking. Also you do not have to trim the rockers with my brackets.

Here's a web site. BTW, I am putting sidepipes on as well soon. I'm going to do pipes without the cover. My wife is the only person that typically rides with me. I'm hoping to teach her not to touch (without learning the hard way). She's used to riding on a harley with hot pipes...

I presonally like the look without the shields...but that's just my opinion.

Of coarse! How you mount the pipes, will determine if/where you must notch the rockers panels out.

I agree, they do look better. Believe me, I have burned my legs more than once on my Bikes too...maybe on second thought I should get them for safety reasons, lol, .

When I first put side pipes on my Corvette I had two friends burn there legs really bad when getting out of the car. So I looked on the WWW and the only heat shields available were the Cobra Cheese graders. I bought a set but they looked so flimsy and cheep I decided to make my own. Well when I laser cut 1 mm highly polished stainless steel shields I posted pictures on this forum. The many remarks on how everyone liked them and would I make a set for them also, I decided to go ahead and make other designs. Then I went and applied for a license from GM to use there copyrighted names. Well to get a license is not easy or cheap plus they needed to see the quality first. The samples I sent to them must have been good as someone in the licensing company wanted them for his Vette.

BTW,I am now in the process of adding more designs like Firebird, Camaro and Chevy bow tie shields.

The many folks that have my Steelshields installed have been pleased with the looks and safety they provide.

Now the cheese grader shields do work to keep you, your friends and family from getting a serious leg burn but many owners really do like there Corvette to look as good as possible.

I'm not worried about shields one or two burns and they learn to step OUT (either that or wear pants) I love them though, they look great and I want the BTS baffles but dont have the money for them right now so I just have the hooker reverse flow muffler with several large holes drill as deep as I could get. Dunno if it helped the flow any but its definitely louder.. the only issue I have with them as that I just can get them to stop leaking where the pipes slides over the collector. mainly near the bracket to tighten it. Anyone know of a way to keep it from leaking ( maybe something to put inbetween to seal it)

I have a 76 also. Here are some pics of the install. I bought the cobra covers for mine. If you get them you need 4" clamps for the front of the pipes. The 3-1/2" ones they sell don't fit the Patriot pipes which is what I have, same as oyu.
