There are a lot of fast C3's on the forum, so a lot of ppl might not bother posting knowing this. However, I will. My '76 L82 ran low 14s in 105 degree weather last summer, beat that!
I am doing a new motor now though, but it won't be anywhere near what some ppl can do on this forum as I want it to be as streetable as possible. 427 sbc, efi setup, probably 550 hp. Might put a centrifugal blower on it down the road though...
Awww...
FYI if you want a supercharged engine, you better plan on it from the get go. If you build a potent 427 sbc NA motor, it will have the wrong cam and compression for a blower.
And Norval, how fast will your car run the 1/4 mile? You have around 1K hp don't you?
... No dyno ever raced down a track as far as I know. Dep
i couldnt agree more on this one
also, we should agree on what we mean for 'fast':
1) fast on a quartermile streightline?
or
2) fast as overall on a track with streights and nice sexy curves?
for the point 1) you MAINLY need power, good rubber to hook properly and a driveline that won't fall apart after you release the clutch pedal...
for the point 2) you ABSOLUTELY need a proper balanced car with good power, sweet suspension set up, proper brake sistem and a well experienced driver to match

Gearing and suspension are just as critical as power. A well balanced 600 HP car can beat cars with 200+ more HP at the track if it's setup properly.. I've raced and beaten 700 RWHP C5's on slicks with about 600 GROSS FLYWHEEL HP.. It all depends on how well a car is setup..

I will never find out. I am not interested in taking it to the track or abusing it. I just enjoy the build and going out a putting around on the way to local cruise nights.
I watch pinks and every race someone blows something. Oliver gets a season out of his motor, about 100 passes and calls it good. That is something like 100 miles and that is considered good life??
No I will not race my car. I was into that a long long time ago and refreshed the motor yearly but not anymore.
Getting too old to abuse the equipment, don't want to rebuild something I am already happy with.
I honestly prefer a good horse to a car.

how could i agree more with you, grandsport?
i'd adventure myself saying that to make a good wife she doesnt need to be all curves, desire and sparkling eyes , she'll need also to be a good cooker, behave properly and take good care of her man

This should really be in C3 general. It would be hard to beat Big632.

He never posted a time slip and I'm not sure if anyone has ever seen him go down a track. I've only seen video of him disturbing the neighbors in front of his house.

I vaguely remember a story about you racing a newer mustang around some freeway onramp or something...I believe you said you had more than enough power to whip his butt on the straights, but still felt you were more than challenged on the curves....not "a quote" but.........you know
These threads are always fun...everyone gets to describe their idea of *street car*. I prefer to use pump gas as the main deciding factor....of course if they sell 100 octane near your house at the pump...or even better than that on the east coast...I guess I have to cut a little slack. Or if someone is willing to buy race gas and go cruising.
Those GoodYears are 16 months old. GoodYear racing slicks 27x14-15 r430's from Sasco with "historic" tread cut in and only one heat cycle. I have two more sets of slicks without tread mounted also. About a grand a set for all 4.

16 month old race tires are NOT they might hold air but I would never use them on a race car....at least not on a race car with me in the seat.....of course you and me are in the seat for different reasons.....

PS: whats the significance of having your slicks grooved?? racing in the rain??
