I run the cut tires on my original (1975) 15" x 17" wide Sterling magnesium wheels. You would not run those on the track either as after 30 years they become brittle and are known for coming apart at speeds, ask Lance. I run these tires on the street for shows etc. they are not DOT and not legal but I have not been bothered with tread cut in and historic plates on it.
Driving this on the street is a rare occasion, it really is not a good situation for a dozen reasons, tire compounds, road clearances(3 and 3/8"), and it really does not seem to like sitting at "idle" for anything over a few seconds, etc.
When we go on the track or any thing over 60, we use "new" wheels but I stay with GoodYear tires thru Sasco sports. and yes I still have the original goodyear pattern cut rain tires that were on the car in 1982, I use them as a base for a coffee table.
PS. I'm having a freaking ball with it within my limitations and abilities during my short tenure as it's caretaker. It next owner may just beat the the livin crap out of it, I hope he has half as much fun as I am. Maybe we will see you at Nelson's ledges this weekend.

Yellow.....Remember racing tires are very different from regular tires, usually much softer compounds, thin side walls etc. They do not age as well as street tires, and if they do go it usually in a bit more of a critical situation.

Yes I was playing with a supercharged mustang from I believe Kenny Bell. It sure was quick in the corners.
By putting I don't mean I don';t occassionally triple the speed limit.

Honestly to me covering 50 miles of rough terrain on horse back in 4 1/2 hours is a far bigger feat then covering the quarter mile in 7 seconds.
My car is comming out today, first firing of the 540 but I will definitely get my 10 mile run in on my new horse Shadow.

If you are willing to work on it and pump it full of 120 octane NOS fuel, good for you

Now streetable, is another story. It ought to run on pump gas and be able to go on an all day trip without breaking down or puking coolant.
Couldn't agree more!

Mine's a stree car and I suppose a "dyno queen" by definition until I run it in anger at the track. 5-6K miles/yr in the all too short NH summers.....

Norval, my neighbor has one of those Kenny Bell setups on his Cobra. It's a road race car with fuel cell and heim joint suspension. I've never raced him, but he's fast. He took off from my house and hit the rev limiter in three gears. That was in less than 100 yrds. Those cars are light and quick.

Anyway, my Vette will do the quarter mile in about in about 5 sec. as long as the start line is the top of a cliff!

I got to ride in a 64 Cobra - 289 with factory dual quads - when I was young. My friend drove it to it's limit. After that, I judge every car by that Cobra. That thing was just darn quick.
