matching numbers on 1982 ce
im trying to buy an 82 ce. am new at this. isnt the serial number on the engine supposed to match the last digits on the vin? and where exactly is that number? and what does the ck digit in the vin actually do/tell?

Hi,
The number you are looking for (the VIN derivative number,) is found on a machined pad on the passenger side of the engine between the cylinder head and the water pump. The sixth digit of the VIN will be a "0" on the CE only , the other 82 Vettes had an "8" in that position. The ninth position is the "check" digit, but I don't know what it means.
