need help deciding on a clutch...have a '70 bb vert being rebuilt to stroker...roller cam lifters and rockers...shud be apx 475 hp...would like advice on what clutch would be best for application... thanks in advance for advice from experience... fred
I'm running a McLeod, but any good quality clutch kit will work as long as it is correct for your engine. 475 hp is pretty common, should you should have tons of choices from places like Summit, Jegs, etc. You didn't say, but I'm assuming you'll be driving it on the street.
yup...on the street...also sounds like some of the guys on another thread on roll bars are talking that you need a roll bar to limit frame twist when you're running higher hp...is this true?? thanks... fred

I would think that depends on how much traction you have. I'm no expert, but if you can't grab the asphalt...you will just SMOKE the tires!!
I'm using OEM clutch and pressure plate...personally nothing fits like OEM. If your application is street driving than OEM will do the job just fine, but McLeod and Centerforce both are good choices for aftermarket if you head that way.
You may also want to consider a blow-proof bellhousing...for your own safety and if you ever consider taking it to the track you'll need one. Peace of mind is priceless.
On verts you do have a risk of frame twist, but depends how much hard launching you plan to do and how more HP you plan to add, at 475hp I wouldn't think you would be as prone to it, but again depends on your application, unless your running it up to 4-6k rpm and dumping the clutch a lot you should be fine.
On my other car, which is a vert, I used sub-frame connectors to stiffen up the frame to avoid the risk, can't say how it's done on a vette, but i'm sure some vert owners will chime in with detail.
