[QUOTE]Paul---got the old ones out, pretty easy. I think I may have found the secret ingredient! The rubber self stick tape they use to insulate a cap from the bed rails on a pick-up! Perfect thickness for making up that little

If you have any HVAC distibutors in your area. (I.E. stores that supply heating and air conditioning supplies to contractors and home owners) There are an abundance of widths and thicknesses of foam tapes used in that market for sealing duct work joints and furnace plenums (sp?) so heat and cold will not affect their integrity. These tapes come with either one side or both sides sticky. I have used this type of tape to seal my heating duct work in my car after interior restoration, and let me tell you.. it seals very well because of it's density, and is manufactured to LAST! I will also use it to shim up the new weather seals on my windows..when I can get to it. It is easy to work with and cuts with a razor or sissors. It is also bendable (to an extent) to make corners seamless. Well worth the search for you. Luckily..I have a supplier near my house. HOPE I'VE HELPED YOU OUT SOME!! GOOD LUCK

Excellent info, thank you. Funny how sometimes the answer is just staring you in the face: there's a large heating & plumbing supplies shop about a 5 min. walk from my house!!

When I changed mine out I actually had the opposite problem of having the vertical weatherstripping stick out too far. The adjustments just didn't go far enough, so when I close the door I have to roll the window down an inch or two and guide the top of the glass as I roll it into place. A real PITA but at least I don't have any leaks or air flow issues. I'm hoping eventually the weatherstripping will "mold" to where they need to be. But that will probably happen when it needs to be changed again.

I didn't drill out the rivets, I just ground them down flush with a grinder.

Good luck!

Default Not that hard

Original owner of a '75, replacing original weatherstripping.

The vertical weatherstrip at the rear of the door glass on mine is attached by a rivet about 1 inch from the bottom and a nylon pushpin about 1 inch from the top, as well as weatherstrip adhesive.

The metal weatherstrip channel is attached to the body by two additional rivets - but there's no need to remove it.

I simply pulled out the nylon pushpin, and tore the old weatherstrip off with a screwdriver. It came off easily. I then pried out the rivet at the bottom.

I cleaned out the area with mineral spirits, wiped it clean, then cleaned again with rubbing alcohol.

The new weatherstrip could be attached with simply weatherstrip adhesive and reusing the nylon pushpin at the top, however the new weatherstrip had a hole in it for the bottom rivet and I wanted to properly align it, so I simply inserted a short piece of 3/16 inch wooden dowel into the hole in the body where the rivet had been.

Not very hard and no need to remove the interior panel.

When I replaced mine I found they never touched the glass either. I made a spacer for each side that moved the wheather stripping out.
I painted the spacer black . I did this 14 years ago and until this post forgot I had to do it that way.
