Default Need help quick on journal radius!

I was getting ready to start clearancing the block for the 383, when I noticed a fairly significant problem. The new crank has a main journal radius of about 2.650 inches. The old crank has a main journal radius of about 2.440 inches (it was turned .010). Obviously, this won't work. I thought that the 2.650 inch diameter was for a 400. What gives?

Looks like they sent you a 400 crank.

And shorted you on the piston pin locks. QA for this company is less than desirable.

That's what I was thinking. Why would I need a 400 crank if a 383 is using a 350 block?

I just went back to their website to look for the part number. They have two 3.750 cranks...a 350 mains (part #3503750) and a 400 mains (part #4003750). My balance card says 3503750 and the crank has 3503750 painted on the end.

They must have mis-marked the crank.

Before, I ordered these parts, I heard that Ohio Crankshaft was a great company. Also, they were very helpful on the telephone. Therefore, I will reserve judgment on this until I speak to them on the phone tomorrow.

Thanks for the help everyone.

return the entire kit @ OC's expense ... everybody goofs here & there ... give 'em a chance to provide another (correct) kit.

wrong crank, no wirelocs, wirelocs not shown on balance card.

I've weighed those SP wirelocs before ... they're right at 3g per pair ...
IMHO 3g of ~1800g BW is rather insignificant in a combo like yours ...
< 0.2% error.

I just got off the phone with them. They are going to send the locks out to me.

Also, they are going to pick up the crank and cut the mains to 350 mains because everything else is already balanced.

This makes sense. What do you guys think?

OK ... but I'd ask for something to sweeten the deal. Ask that when they cut those mains to ALSO cut all mains with 0.125" radii ... AND throw in a set of H series main bearings ... ALL at no charge to you.

FYI:The H bearings fit the wider & stronger 0.125 radii ... you'll end up with a stronger lower w/ less chance you'll ever break the snout or back off the crack.

**edit** regardless ... make SURE they chamfer ALL oil holes & put a good polish on ALL journals.

I have to give him a call tomorrow and let him know that the crank is boxed up and sitting here at my office. I will mention that when I call him.
