I'm looking for an alignment shop in the Central NJ area. I tried the regional forum but didn’t get feedback from any C3 owners. I'm looking for a shop to set my alignment to the VBP specifications. Has anyone had success with this in Central New Jersey?
I'm about as far from New Jersey as I can get without leaving the country, but asking a few of the right questions can help in determining whether or not whoever you talk to is capable of doing the job for whatever you decide is an acceptable price. Some of those would be-
(1) Are you able and/or willing to make toe changes to the rear?
(2) Are you able and/or willing to make camber/caster changes to the front?
(3) Are you willing to perform alignment work on an old car with a complete aftermarket suspension conversion?
Of course, (1)&(2) involve removing and replacing shims and potentially a lot of double-checking, which takes time and therefore costs money. MOST alignment shops in my experience when selling you the ubiquitous "front-end alignment" for $79.00 are only willing to 'set the toe and let it go'. If the caster and camber settings are out they will try and compensate with toe adjustments which can be made very easily. This results in a car which may go down the road straight but will have tire wear and other handling issues that can take a lot longer to notice. And even though most alignment shops nowadays have very exotic computerized laser-targeting alignment racks it can be very difficult finding a technician who's both able and willing at the same time to properly use it. I have personally discovered that a DIY caster/camber gage and level garage floor work just fine.....
Here was someone who was happy with the alignment he got. I am going to check it out also. I need an alignment and set to my specs and I want to be involved in the alignment since mine is way different than stock setups.
Since installing a #330 mono spring on my 75 the rear wheels no longer sits square to the pavement. It also sits about 2” lower in the rear, about a 27-1/2” ride height. I installed 8” bolts at the time of the spring install. I still have to install the front #550 springs and shocks. I’m hoping that lowering the front will correct the problem. However, I know that a four wheel alignment is in order after installing new suspension parts.

As Gordon said above, I had a great experience with Ceriale's...I still smile ear to ear everytime I'm out cruising it feels so good. All of my weird geometries were corrected after I did the full suspension rebuild.
