Default Spindle problem

Today i was going to press the spindle out of my trailing arm mainly because i want to have the TA chromed, when i got the spindle out i found that the notches where the flange goes had been turned and looked like it would completely fail in the near future.

What struck me was that i replaced this spindle 3years ago and now it looks like its about to tearing in two but the other side still has the original spindle from 68 and it looks like new.

Could it be that the new spindle is a poor casting quality? and if yes where do i get some quality spindles that are at least as good or preferrably better than the original ones?

If there are inferior spindles being sold, we all would like to know who to buy or not buy from. (Unless it's a secret)

G,
I'll dig one out and post a pic of it. Easy to spot. One of the larger vette companies was selling ones that were really bad. Also easy to spot. They had "made in brazil" stamped on them.

I know the spindles you are referring too. I refuse to install them. Runouts anywhere from 0 thou to 23 thou. Bearing diameters all over the board as well.

only thing i can say was that the spindle i had problems with came from Ecklers.
I have no knowledge about where how and when it was made other than it was sold as a new unit not remanufactured.

My senses tell me that a spindle made from the correct material composit should not twist but instead just break clean if stressed to much, the bending suggest that the material is too soft, maybe i am wrong but thats my thougts about it.

Bearing shoulder diamter also looked way off, with 45tons pressure i couldnt press the spindle out instead the whole Tarm collapsed and went to the bin, so all my work for a chromed TA was replaced with a purchase of new spindles new offset HD ta and new bearings, dustplates etc, which again tells me to not buy inferior products in the future.

I have seen original units twist before. Personally, I'd rather have them twist than snap...
P.S. Alot of what we are getting from major vendors comes from far away. We only will see an improvement in quality if we complain.

Default Inferior Products

I have no experience with spindles, but I know members should approach buying suspension "packages" very cautiously. When I was asking who manufactured ball joints and tie rod ends, got a lot of smoke and mirrors. Went with Moog individual items, more money, but superior quality where it is needed!

I replaced a spindle this winter, it came from Riks vets,,I checked the runout in a lathe and it only had a few thousands of run out,,,and it had no "made in foreign country names on it" so far so good.
