I know there is someone out there with a weak E-brake like mine. I replaced the shoes(yea..loads o fun), and tried adusting it, but I still have almost no resistance on the lever. It feels like the cable is a rubber band. Do these cables stretch with age ?? My inspection is up next month, he let me slide last year, I don't want to push my luck....My car is a '79. Thanks.
check the adjustment under the car. Check it where the wire "t"s off and goes to either wheel. A simple spin or two of that nut might do the trick depending on where it is now....Its worth a look anyway.
- Did you make sure the tabs on the lever were correctly aligned with the notches in the shoes? If they miss, the levers will move without pushing the shoes against the linings.
- Did you adjust the brake shoes outward using the star wheel on the bottom of the drums? I set them just tight enough to turn the rear wheels heavily by hand. You can then tighten up the cable if these steps aren't enough.
