I am not too sure how the rear engine lift bracket is supposed to mount on my 71 small block -4spd car.
I started to place it at the top right bolt from bellhousing to block (i.e. the passenger side bellhousing bolt that is closest to the top and closest to the center) and had the tab facing forward toward the engine.
It did not seem quite right when I tried to position it this way.
Is this it correct location? Or does it mount to the the next bolt down?
Is the tab supposed to face forward toward the engine or back toward the trans?
I do not see info on this in the AIM, probably because that bracket would have been placed on engine when engine was assembled (before it went to final assembly plant).
That would make sense for it to be on the back of the head. I thought what I had read indicated it was at the bellhousing and it definitely was not fitting right there.
So it must go on the back of the head on the accessory hole closest to the intake.
I believe typical factory installation had the rear lift bracket mounted on the top right-side bellhousing bolt with the tab facing forward. It's still this way on my one owner 71 SB coupe.
Regards,
Alan
Thanks, I thought that I had read that it went to bellhousing bolt, but it does not seem that it would fit real well there. I sent you a pm, I would be very interested to see a pic of yours if you can try to get a shot of it.
