Alternator Rebuild????
I have the alternator apart from my 81 and was wondering if there is such a thing as a rebuild kit for it? I would like to replace the brushes and bearings while its apart. I took it apart to clean and paint it. Thanks.

I am not sure about the "Kit". But parts are avalible at any auto parts store. When rebuilding the one on my wife's 84. (She also took apart for polishing). I had to order the brushes. Took a day.

I got mine from ebay. $22 including shipping. Buy it now from "tbirdbette"(RS Auto Electric). Check out item 290012196379. Got it in 2 days

If it still holds a charge and runs good, wouldn't hurt to replace the bearing and just clean the brushes up. I just did the same thing, it cleaned up nice and bearing was like $5, if that, so if your alternator ran fine before, I personally wouldn't see a need for all new guts.
