I think that I have found the problem with my power window problem. When I connect a jumper wire from the battery positive side to the wire on the top side of the relay my windows work, but when I run the same hot wire directly to the lug at the relay the windows do not work. Can this mean that I have a bad relay? Also can anyone tell me where I can get a wiring schematic for my 75 coupe? Thanks.
The power window relay sounds like your problem. P/N 7729602 is no longer available, but I think we might still have one on the shelf. I believe they are around 30.00.
But a tip to the wise on this one. The relay has a set of points inside of it that tend to burn. You can remove the cover from the relay and there is a remote chance you can repair it. A small file can restore the point contacts to like new position just like in the old days when you filed your points in the distributor.
7729602 1968-1978 Power Window Relay. NOS 68-78 $31.28
ECK29300 1968-1982 Power Window Relay. Replacement 68-78 $24.00
Wow. That is impressive! Don't think I ever experienced a vendor...with an available product in stock....recommend that a customer try to fix a relay before getting a new one. I'm really impressed and will take a look at what Wilcox has to offer the next time something on my '71 goes kaput!.
P.S. Exactly what I would have recommended. But, if the points are badly burned or don't clean up well...buy the new one. It's a nuisance to have to pull the old one back out when it fails again next week.
