Default Simple distributor question

Got a 68 dist. that has been changed to the pointless system. Now has 2 wires comeing from dist., red is coil I assume, is the black a ground? If so why wouldn't it ground inside dist.? Thanks

You need to find out who made your pointless system and get the info from them. It's be easy to say "just ground the black wire" but doing that my cook your system. There are so many types out there it's not possible to give any safe directions..

Pop the distributor cap and look for the brand name and model on the module that replaces the points. Get on the web to their site. These outfits usually have the circuit connections "on line".

thanks for the info. its not a tach wire i don't think as it's a manual drive tach dist. i'll get the brand name today and see what i can find on the internet

I use a Pertronix system in my 73 tach drive distributor.
It has 2 wires coming from it, one red and one black.

The red attaches to the positive side of the coil, the black attaches to the negative side of the coil.

Yours may differ depending on the manuf.
