This is a new group buy dizzy. It has only 2000 miles on it, where"s all the black soot comeing from? I have a msd cap, rotor, coil, wires, but dont have the msd module. Could that be my problem?

Put a very little old points type dist grease on the spring posts. weight pivots and rub areas at the bottom of the weights. A very little.

Most cheaper aftermarket dist don't have the plastic buttons and bushings. Can't see if this one does.

Polishing the moving areas also helps if so inclined.

You probably would not have noticed if you had a black cap

A plastic cap with all of the electrical energy around it creates static charges that cause dust/dirt to stick to it. The black stuff is a combination of airborne dust and soot created when oily air (engine compartment is full of it) is "burned" during each plug discharge. Over time it builds up. Wipe it out of the cap every time you change oil; it really isn't harmful....it doesn't stick to the electrodes.

At first it appeared to be black soot as in burnt, after a closer inspection it appears to be black lube of some kind. Had a oily resude to it anyway. i cleaned it all up and put very (very) thin coat of points grease on it. Thanks guys

They probably lubed under the centrifugal weights with graphite.
It'll appear black and feel oily even though its a dry lubricant

I hope not. Graphite is highly conductive.
