Re: Yet another HP combination question... (scorciae)
no I think that would get you about 250-280..that kit only gets you 65 with intake and cam...the headers will get you about 30(I think)...so thats only a 95 improvement over 180HP L.48(a 77 l.48 is 180 HP)...plus a 20% drive train loss. If you want to get HP to the ground, I suggest a Comp Cams High Energy 268H cam...that said to be good for 80-100 HP. Then the headers about 30, plus a edelbrock performer intake, about 20...that would get you over 300...it'd get you closer, thats for sure.

Trav, what is the price on that kit?
... looking at same kit in Jegs with edelbrock cam, carb (600 cfm and electric choke), and alum intake (performer rpm)
.. for about $350-400.

"SysteMAX Requirements
It's recommended that a 4-bolt main short block be used, although a good 2-bolt main short block can also be used. Minimum cylinder head valve size requirement is 1.94" intake diameter and 1.50" exhaust diameter. Compression requirement is 9.8:1. Holley testing was conducted with a 750 CFM vacuum secondary carburetor, P/N 0-3310. A good set of 1-5/8" tube headers used in conjunction with some high-flow/low back pressure mufflers won't hurt you either. If you're running an automatic transmission a 2,000-2,500 RPM stall converter will help lower drag strip times. New, top quality gaskets for your specific application are required separately and are not part of the package."
I cut & paste the above quote from the website. Note the compression ratio requirement.
The cam is a copy of Comp Cams CS268H. Crane has a copy too.
For your stock auto., you might be happier w/ one step down to Comp Cams XE256 for more low rpm HP. Dual plane intake, better heads, headers & free flow exhaust will put it over 300 on fresh engine rebuild even w/ 9 C/R.
