Default Need help adjusting front chrome bumper

I've got the body back on my '72 and I'm trying to get the front bumper adjusted right. For some reason there's like a 1 inch gap between the bumper and the fiberglass. I know there's supposed to be a little space, but it's way too much. I've tried adjust the frame horns, the bumper support, and the front bumper brace, but there dosen't seem to be enough adjustment. Is there something I'm missing? Can someone tell me how much of a gap there should be between the bumper and the body?

Also, how far off of the bumper brace (the stealth bomber shaped piece under the core support) should the core support be? Mine's sitting right on top of it right now. Thanks guys!

Usually about 1/2 inch gap, about a fingers thickness. You had the body off. Perhaps it's too far aft? The core support sits on the lower frame extension, shims as required.

It took me a day and a half to get my '68 bumper right. I had to bend it to fit. I was worried about cracking the chrome, but it worked perfectly. It was definately a PITA.

OK, good to know that it's not easy. I'll extend some of the holes if I have to.

Is it an afternarket bumper or was it already on your car? My outer bumper brackets would not fit, so I used a longer bolt and washers to tie them together. Basically, the brackets and the bumper are not touching. There is about 2 inches of space between them. That's the only way I could get it to fit.

According to the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM), the front bumper is supposed to have ".48-.52 inches" of space between it and the body. (1/2" gap)
