Default Reverse light wiring question

1970 4sp.

I know the reverse light connector on the dash harness is pink/green. Where is this connector located? Does this connector plug directly into the wiring on the side of the transmission?

I have no reverse lights and I'm working through a little trouble shooting today. There is no bracketry/wiring on my transmission so thats part of the problem. If I can locate the pink/green dash connector I'll be able to see if 'Bubba' dismantled it.

thanks,
Jim

My 76 4speed has a switch mounted on the trans and wired to a disconnect in the engine bay and then through the fire wall. A new switch will have the correct color wires but a old original is either so dirty or has been cut and sliced that the wires are different colors. Not that mine was that way a few years ago.

I'll try to locate the connector on the firewall side. Although I dont have the switch/wire assembly on the transmission I should be able to connect a jumper wire to the connector. If my reverse lights come on (cross fingers) all I'll need is the wire/switch assembly.

Thanks,
Jim

I think the early C3's had the backup light switch internal to the neutral start switch. On my '71 automatic, that switch is on the side of the gear shift mechanism, under the shift console.

On the automatics the backup light switch is on the shifter under the console. The 4 speed cars had the switch mounted to the side of the transmission. It is operated by the reverse shifting arm. A small link goes from the arm to the switch. The wires do run up the firewall and there should be a connecter on the firewall right about even with the steering column. Many of the switches are long gone.

I found the connector on the firewall side. My reverse light(s) work when I hook up a jumper wire. All I need to do now is order the switch and related hardware.

On a side note only the drivers side reverse and brake lights work. I guess there's a loose wire or bad ground back there.

Thanks for the help.

Lucky you have the switch on your trans. Mine is gone and need the whole set up for the switch and mount. Luckly the pink and green L plug is hanging from the firewall.

I discovered the same problem today. Can someone show me a picture of what this should look like on the transmission and where can I get one?

Thanks

I guess I was even more lucky. I got mine working by replacing the bulbs!
