Default Auto Transmission Fluid

HI;

I have a 1980 with auto trans with less than 34,000 miles. I checked the fluid level about 10 days ago and it was over filled. I removed 16 oz. and the fluid level was in the middle of the add 1 pint area at 60 degrees. I checked the fluid the other day when fluid was hot and it was over the full when hot mark. I checked the fluid level this evening (has been sitting for 24 hours) air temp. is about 75 degrees and the level is to the leter "o" in full h"o"t. How did the fluid level rise from the middle of add 1 pint area to over filled now? Thanks

Mark

What I'm saying is that with the fluid at 60 degrees 10 days ago the fluid was in the add 1 pint area. Now with the fluid at 75 degrees the fluid is in the over full area. I'm using the same reference point. Where did the additional fluid come from to become over full? Thanks

your torque converter is full of vanes that hold fluid and depending on how and where it stops spinning my guess is the fluid level will change....it also probalby drains out of the radiator slowly also

my understanding is the torque converter holds a decent amount of fluid while spinning that drains back into the pan when the engine is off.
