Thanks for the info, it is very informative, now that I undrestand the box better, I stand by my original comment. But It's just a GUT FEELING, A Jeep box has no place in a sports car, < gut feeling, and I would never put one in my Vette <true, simply because of the unpredictability of it, I wouldn't trust it. but that's just based on a gut feeling. I would get a tight stock rebuilt system, espiecilly for a Vette as kick azz as Witz's, that's one mean machine. JUST MY OPINION, thats all.
I agree Batty, what's unpredictable is that damn old stock system, as you may know, I did my own rack install back in '01 yet, before Steeroids came out, and it's been on the car with just TWO universal joints for what? pushing 6 years now....works fine...drive wonderfully...
I'm in favor of the rack and pinions,, i just don't like the Power steering Gears. Batmans starting to get on my nerves, I'll put it this way batman,, get a life and stop posting 20 comments a day here. Let me put it this way. I DON'T LIKE THE POWER STEERING GEARS. That's it in a nut shell. I don't like them. it's my personal opinoin, based on 0 scientific or engineering information. I don't like them. If this bothers you get a life and get over it. I am not wrong for not liking them, it's just my OPINION, I thought I made that clear. Don't like them today, won't like them tommorrow, that's it. I would prefer a clean newly rebuilt stock system. If you like the power steering gears, by all means use them, I would prefer a good rack and pinion as a second choice. tha's what i like. I also like the color Forrest green for a Vette and don't like red. I am partial to holley carbs and think rochesters are junk. I like my C3 because I think american muscle cars look like soap boxes after '74. My second favorite muscle car is the '70 to '74 Cuda. these are just some opinions to keep Batman busy over the course of the next year, as he debates them in fine detail, while applying the socratic methode in an attempt to disprove the wisdom in them. That will be while I am driving around in my C3 Vette, enjoying the summer.

You didn't make it clear that it was an opinion, you came in here, as a new guy, posting like you had the sole line of truth on steering systems.
You're welcome to your opinion, I'm welcome to my opinion, everyone here is welcome to their opinion. Just don't be surprised if someone asks you why you hold that opinion.
Reading some of your posts B/M, I was wondering if this was a Corvette tech forum, or a Political forum. this is a forum about Vettes, right? If so, lets keep our comments on the subject at hand, ie Corvette technical problems/solutions. Doing elsewise only shows waekness of character.

Which posts are you looking at? Ones from Off Topic or Politics, Religion and Controversy?
Well, things are progressing, though I have not had much time to work on this. The box is mounted to the frame and I only had to ding my header a little bit (that said, I will probably sent it to Stahl when I'm all done to have the pipe moved about 3/4"). Everything was going good, when I hit a snag... the box aligned perfectly with the steering column shaft but it was 3/4" higher than the column. Thought it was the firewall, but turns out the wiring harness on top of the column was hitting the mounting plate and not allowing the column to go up that last little bit. I loosened the four bolts holding the plate to the car and slid it back (there is an amazing amount of adjustment in that thing). Only problem is I moved it so far that I need to extend the mounting tabs about 3/4". Once that is done, I think I'm on my way. Kevin from ConceptOne has been great helping me through this. I hope by the end of this weekend, I'll have some good news for you guys!
I went with the 12.7 ratio - can't wait to try it on the track!

Fre3dom,
Nice home made ramps.
do you have specs and information for making a set at home?
(sorry for the hijack, he wont accept IM)
He's on forum vacation. Might be a while before you get those specs from him.
There's a post on making homemade ramps, try the search function.
Witz, when you get time snap a few pics. I'm curious as to how this unit visually compares to the jeep box I got from corvette steering. (Side note, I finally adapted the 80 tilt/tel column to my car, this was the first time in a year and a half when I turned the steering wheel, the wheels turned too!!!!!! awsome site. )
Thanks Witz for the info , if you get a chance and happen to have a digital cam I know I would love to see a pic or two of your progress and where you ran into that snag in the column for future reference.

Here is how it is looking so far... box is mounted. There is also a picture of the ignition switch harness and the plate it was hitting. I should have the plate back tomorrow complete with the two mounting tabs extended so I can bolt the column to it when the plate is pushed further to the firewall. My latest problem is the pulley situation (what a mess, going to have to come up with a new set-up... now taking suggestions).
Is that a Concept one power steering pump as well that is causing you the pulley problem? I was just wondering, if so was the pump necessary to operate the new steering box or just something you wanted to go with at the same time or perhaps I just missed that you had manual steering before the upgrade :o . What brand name are the rest of your pulleys?

The pump wasn't necessary, but it sounded much better than the Saginaw pump and it can more easily be "tuned". The pulleys are just a mixed set... don't even know who makes them. The power steering pulley is ConceptOne.
I have been thinking about this for a solution, but I don't know if it will work with the ConceptOne pump. http://www.marchperf.com/pg13.html
