Looking for a possible daily driver... Found a 1978 with 19,000 original miles in great shape.... need to go see the car, but got a shock with the photos. Comments on this decal:
Stock? and why?
Not stock if that's what you're asking. Not my cup of tea either but, if the rest of the car was good enough, I wouldn't let it stop me from buying. Are you sure it's a decal or is it custom paint? If it's a decal & it hasn't been on too long you might be able to remove it if you don't like it. From what I can see, the car looks very clean.
decal looks :U to me ! :D Sorry couldn´t resist! :jester
If the car is OK and its just a decal - just buy it and remove it (use a hairdryer and a lot of patience)
If there are marks left, let a professional car polish center clean up the paint - they do miracles!
Looks like something that was common in the '70's. Dealers putting tape striping on vehicles to create limited editions and showroom traffic. My car came with tape stripping on the sides. It came off as mentioned above, hairdryer. Paint did show where it had been, but I can't do a real pro job on reworking the areas.
The real deal is that I would buy the car and remove the decals.
Re: Feedback/comments on this decal..... (Budman78)
Not my taste but if that is really the original mileage go for it. If it is a decal, it can be removed, if its paint, it can be carefully sanded down, and buffed to a shine.
If you have found a 19000 mile car, great! I don't care for the decal either but I remember Eastwood (I think) makes a soft rubber wheel that "polishes" decals off without harming the paint underneith. If this is painted on then you only have one option - repaint.

I hate to go against the grain but I like the decal. It is so '70s. Maybe I wouldn't do that to my car today but I bet that thing looked kick-azz in 1978.
Sure things go out of style, but like a back window louver, there are things that just scream era and this 23 year old Corvette seems like the perfect canvas.
Re: Feedback/comments on this decal..... (SuperFast80)
I agree with superfast...I don't actually LIKE the decal, but I do like that it looks era correct...I say keep it. it might get a lot of negative comments, but you can just say "its era correct though" and no one can argue that.
Re: Feedback/comments on this decal..... (Budman78)
Thanks everyone for the comments.....People from around this era know of this car :yesnod: - it was one of 5? cars that were stored for many years. Each of the cars were sold just a few years ago. Club president took photos of it to post - says it is awesome :p: ..... going to look today....with checkbook....this will defer a C5 purchase for the wife - maybe until the economy recovers or C6???? Need something other than the '70 rocket to drive to Kentucky for 2004....
