Hi all: My daughter just bought her dream car, a 1980. When accelerating the car pulls right and when you let off it pulls to the left, only slightly but enough to fell like something is not right. I build hot rods for a living but I know nothing about IRS. Thanx for any ideas.
Check your trailing arm bushings. When they wear out, they allow side to side movement of the rear end making the car feel like its darting on acceleration or deceleration.
Dang 6ft beat me to it....

the front of these cars lift under acceleraltion making the suspension geometry change.....correct front alignment and correct rear alignment along with T/A bushings, good u joints and good differential yokes and wheel bearings all play a roll.....
minimizing body lift through better springs also helps...
A word of caution ... this is not a quick job. You might want to search these forums for advice/instructions on removing the trailing arms, if you haven't done it before. In many cases, the front bolts are seized/rusted inside the bushing sleeves and have to be cut out (I used a Sawzall) and replaced. And while you're in there, I recommend getting a set of stainless steel alignment shims to replace the originals.
