Default 1981- Oil temp to clock

I'd like to swap out my oil temp guage to the clock like the 1980 Vettes. I noticed there is an extra connector on the circuit board at that guage. Has anyone ever tried attaching a clock there?

Why would you do this? However, I do remeber both of my 81 vettes having a clock...non functioning but never the less a clock. I think the oil temp gauge is more usefull than the clock. just my 2 cents

The connector on the circuit board was taped off when the car had an oil temp gauge beacause the oil temp gauge had it's own quick connect plug. If you replace the oiltemp gauge with a clock, you should just have to un-tape it and connect the clock and it should work fine

To each his own, but I just purchased an oil temp gauge to put in place of the useless clock in my '78. Thing is, I really need to be able to monitor oil temp, but time (of day) doesn't mean much when I'm in my Vette... Guess that make 4 cents, total...

That's what I was thinking. I was just curious if anyone out there had done it before I buy the clock.

That is what I wanted to here, my 80 has an oil temp gage, but no sender,or wiring I have looked everywhere for the wiring, long gone. My printed circuit is taped off from the factory. I would love to have an operative oil temp gage.

Correct me if I am wrong here...but was '81 the first year for the oil temp gauge in place of the clock..and that was only if the upgraded radio was ordered that had a digital clock?

I took out my clock...it was working 98% of the time and put in a oil temp gauge along with the factory upgraded radio with digital clock.

The clock and oil temp gauge bezels are different..and are not interchanagable.

If you need a picture of the bezels, let me know..I have both of them.

Oh and I always like the analog clock...not something one sees much of anymore...but thought the oil temp gauge was more important to have.

You are correct. I was thinking only of the ease in connecting the clock. The bezel in a car with an oil temp gauge may not have the small hole in the front for the set stem to go through.
