Driving to work today I had to wash my windshield and I noticed that after I did that now the washer pump is squirting all the time when ever the wipers are running. I know the pump works off the rotation on the wiper motor so I thought it may have been the pump solenoid had power to it all the time. I disconnected the leads just in case. I just got home and ran the wipers without the power connected to the pump and it's still doing it. What do you guys/gals think. I have not taken the pump off yet to see if anything has broken. BTW this is a brand new pump (replaced about a year ago) and a remanufactured wiper motor (replaced about 2 years ago). This washer pump has worked correctly in the past.
Thanks

I had the same problem when I replaced my broken pump. There is a pawl that grabs onto a plastic wheel with cogs on it. The pawl is supposed to let go after one cycle. It is not seated properly and is continuously grabbling the gears and pumping fluid. It doesn't need to move much.
Thanks,
I took the pump off and was checking it out and that is what I came up with too. How did you fix it (or did you). I can't remember when I got the new pump assembly but I thought the instructions said to use a small awe or allen wrench and insert it in a hole in the housing to line up the cam. I cannot find the instructions. Do you remember this?

I fixed it by moving the pawl manually so that it was correctly positioned over the nylon wheel with the cogs. It was off to the side a bit to start with. Once it was centered everything worked fine.
The instructions for aligning the pump gear with the cam didn't apply to my car as there was nothing on the backside (on the wiper motor) to align it with. They likely don't apply to yours either.
The pawl I mentioned before is on top of the unit near the coil. It consists of two metal pieces with square holes in them which grab the teeth on the nylon gear and pulls it about 4 times per cycle. Each time it pulls the gear, it causes the pump to squirt.

I found the same thing you did. Thanks I noticed that the metal pawl on the new pump is "looser" than the original. Maybe vibration mad the pawl jump off the nylon gear and it would not let the pump arm park.
Thanks for your help. If it does it again all I'll have to do is pull off the the cover and mess with the pawl.
It sure would help if someone had some pic's of the wiper, washer pump assembly.
I have a 1971 and when I push the wash button all I get is a clicking sound and no water..

Here are the pictures. The ones with the pump off the car are my old pump.
Pump portion is the white round assembly to the left. The pawl is the metal piece that is hanging over the white gear. When you push the wash inside the coil at the top pulls the pawl up and the angled arm to the right forces the gear to rotate. This moves the the pump plunger back and forth to pump fluid.
This is the nozzle part of the pump. The big hose is from the fluid can and the two smaller hoses go to the wipers
This is a shot of the pump assembly attached to the wiper motor. The wiper motor rotation makes the pump work when the washer is activated.
