im looking for an exhaust system for my 1968 350hp. original isnt good enough and its not a 427 so, side pipes are out. but i want something that will sound good but not too loud. i have a flowmaster and my 01 vette and on my camaro, does anyone know where i can get one for the 68, id even be up for trying a new exhaust if someone has something cool. price doesnt matter to me so anything goes. thanks
in winchester, va i found a ma/pop shop via reference that did an awesome job and custom bent the tubing. i was trying to stay cheap but ended up getting great reults anyways! and i'm sure it was all under $500!!! i went with the hooker comp headers, which are still black as they were new, with 2-1/2" aluminized exhaust through flowmaster40's. this thing sounds awesome at idle, and when the 4bbl kicks in like a racecar!!! just plain awesome!!! i can post a vid of it running this weekend if you'd like. i have a 68 with a 69 350+0.060, with 68 327 heads, holley 650cfm dbl 4bbl, and k&n filter.
here are 2 vids. the first i noticed the rpm being a little high (1K). turned it down to about 800 for the 2nd. i just replaced the cooling system today with the correct hoses and core support and connected the heater core. should get much better cooling now. i still need to find 3 more brackets so i can get the main fan shroud into place then i should have no worries!!!
I went to Summit for mine, I got the Hooker sidepipes and STS baffles capped on my 68 327 .030 over and 64 #2461 heads with a Team-G intake and Holley 750dp mech secs. $954.00 for the black ones. If they get dirty after awhile of driving or gravel scratches them I just wipe them down and re-spray some High temp black over them they look like brand new. IMO it beats having to keep polishing them with the chrome ones. Using my method makes excellent results in less time. Here are a few clips I've made when I just got the car tuned enough to drive it after I installed everything.

Sorry, don't have a video to show but I can tell you that my '72 SB had the Hooker Comp's with side pipes and sounded cool, no matter what age, for the short run. Only rode the car several times to check out the tune up and loved the sound, especially when the 4bbl opened up. Don't think many neighbors liked it, except the guys under 24! My wife heard me road test the car and mentioned something about finding a new toy but told me not to get attached, one had to go.
Car sold the first day of the ad and was gone faster than I planned so my idea of checking out side pipes to put on my BB '66 needs a different way to check 'em out.
The Hooker setup on the '72 350 SB sounded great, good rumble on a cruise and sleep wake'r on the punch. This type of system had interchangeable "muffler" inserts accessable from the outside or they could be run open, now that was loud!
