Default LSx 5.3 liter install questions

I need some info on this before I start this project. I am seriously considering installing a 2000 5.3 out of a silverado into my 1980 vette. What I am concerned about is will the A/C compressor clear the frame rail and if there is enough hood clearance so that I can use the factory truck intake manifold? Has anyone done or know of anyone that has done this swap?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

David

Can you post some pics of the front of the motor with all the accessories installed?

Also, get a measurement from the center of the crank to the top of the highest accessory. We can use that to determine if it'll fit under your hood.

A/C No, Hood will be close. You can pic up a LS1 intake with everything for less than $100. I would go that route.

hmm that will be a pita then ... ls1 intake will not work with the 5.3 truck accessory bracket. The alternator is in the way of the TB. So, looks like I will need a new accessory brackets maybe.

The intake might clear, but the alt. want. The 80 - 82 hood is pretty flat. Your also going to have issues with the oil pan, the truck oil pan will be about 2" from the ground.

I would start the search for F-body brackets and pan. S $ P makes the A/C bracket for the F-body and I believe one other company.

after checking prices on brackets and other items .... I think I will just go back to my original plans of putting a F.A.S.T. XFI system on the existing engine in the car. It will definitely be cheaper to do.

Guess the 5.3 will just end up getting put into a late 60's pick up.

Sounds like a wise choice.

while the LS engines are truly the wave of the future, i understand there is quite a bit of engineering involved in installing one in a c3. unless you're looking for 400+ streetable N/A horsepower, you would be dollars ahead building a gen 1 or 2 block instead. per dollar spent and fabrication involved, the LS engines can't compete with a early block for a relatively low horsepower combination. it's too bad, because they are bitchin' engines.
