Default Heads...

Hey guys what's the difference in heads between aluminum n cast besides weight....n is it true that the iron heads can take more of a beating....Thanx...Jerrylee///

Besides the 75+ lbs. weight savings (alone worth the difference), the aluminum heads can usually be repaired in the event of a disaster, unlike iron, and allow higher compression ratios. If cost is a factor, that is the downside.

May I ask why it is that you can run higher compression with alluminium, how does the material affect this?

Aluminium dissipates heat at a fast rate, iron does not.

All I can say is.....switching directly from Iron 993? cast heads that had been smoothed over, but still had 194/15x valves, to a set of 113 L98 alumium heads made a large improvement in performance....same valves, with no port work at all, they were declared close enough by me...

I think the increased compression on the heads goes well with the TPIS ZZ9 cam in there for a long time now....

The actual scale weight on a BB engine is a 70 lb. savings from iron to aluminum. On SB`s I dont know. Performance between the two is the same, the only advantage is the weight.
