I took this picture of a 67 convertible at last spring Corvette Expo. This car even has the ABS hooked up on it. Very nice execution on the car. Nice and clean install. It made me want to do the install even more when I saw this car.

Eddie and guys looking to swap cams,i just went for a ride in brothers camaro ,this is the cam im going with, car pulls to 7000 like its nothing .
He only has long tubes and this cam with flowmaster and so far ran a best of 12.7,and it feels like its got alot more to go.With a mild convertor and gears hell be in 11's easily and a smooth idle. This is the cam im going with.

99-TR-CHEATR-CAM Thunder Racing Custom "CheaTR" Camshaft - 214/230 .601/.575 117 LSA. Off Idle-6800 RPM Power Band. Broad power range. Works well with stock exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters. Stock like idle. Minor tuning required on automatic transmission cars. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended. Double valve springs and titanium retainers required for this cam.

With that LSA it probably has a stock idle sound to it. I can imagine that cam would be pretty stout on the top end. I wonder how it would be in normal driving, say around 1800-2000 RPM, where most of my cruising is done.

Just read the description, it says stock idle sound.

Has he done any dyno numbers on his car? I think it seems a little weird to see intake lift numbers larger than exhaust numbers. I guess I have never really paid too much attention to the numbers a whole lot but I am trying to learn with this motor.

I bought the Comp cam XR269HR, now I'm thinking I'm about right for street driving.
Lift is .525 in 532 ex
Duration it 269 in 273 ex
Duration at .050 216 in 22 ex
lobe sep 114
Also adding
1.85 Comp rockers convert to .571 in 579 ex

The say it is a mid range cam with super top end power. Needs programmer.

What do you guys think? Is this cam worth installing or should I change to something like a XR273HR?

If I were to do the swap, the XR269HR was the cam I had in mind....

You could expect roughly 24MPG at cruise from a EFI 350CHP 350 with OD, plus you've dropped some weight too. More importantly you'll have given your C3 some long legs so it'll be much more fun to cruise long distances in.
I hear ya... I was just curious about the LS... Wanted to hear some opinions and what not...

Broke down and bought one of these yesterday. I think it ended up being $41 shipped and you can pay with paypal.

BTW - I started up the vette yesterday after 3 months. Started first crank. Got to love FI and open headers.

I started and drove mine Saturday for the first time since September. Just like you, Buddy, it fired right up.

On a side note, I did some serious brake testing and it looks like the rears are locking up before the fronts. I'm still happy with the manual C5 setup, and will just add a proportioning valve to adjust the balance.

Are any of you guys with running LS motors using the stock LS1 heads? The heads on my motor are 241's with only 27k miles on them but, I am thinking of trying to buy some LS6 heads to add a little more to the swap. I would also like to bump the stock cam up a little too.

That is what I have also. Eddie, why not ship the 241's off to be CNC'ed. That might be cheaper. I don't think the sodium filled valves will give that much hp anyway.

The sodium valves themselves don't gain any HP, but they let you rev higher without valve float.

I have stock LS1 heads. Can't remember the casting number, but it is the design before the 241's. I actually have a completely stock motor, minus AIR and EGR. I'm even running the stock programming.

I'm running stock '00 F-body heads with the TR224 cam. It definietely pulls harder than stock but it really needs headers. Uncapping the dumps at the track gained me almost 2 tenths. If I were to do the swap over again, I would spend the $1000-1500 and picked up a set of ported LS6 heads. These days they're even more plentiful than when I did my swap now that the LS2s are using the same casting. I also would have modified my Hooker sidepipes to work. At the time, everybody said that they wouldn't work with oxygen sensors. Pat proved everyone wrong.

On a completely separate note... I have a photographer who is going to shoot my car for a spread in Corvette Enthusiast next Thursday (6/14). I'm pretty psyched about it. I was under the hood last night cleaning and there's a lot of work to be done. I pulled out all of the vacuum lines but still need to clean up wiring and then do a good cleaning of all of the surfaces. It's amazing how dirty things get when you only drive the car 3 times a year.

Check out www.prozakandtonic.com to see some of his work.
