I have a 1980- working on getting 9.5" rims on the back. I was told from a guy that I could replace the 8" or so outer spring link bolts with shorter ones- maybe 4-5" so the end of the spring would actually go inside the wheel vs interfering with it. I wasn't sure if this would screw anything else up. Anyone have any comments or feedback?
If I knew how to post pics, I would take a picture of it and show it but I don't - not that brilliant with a computer.

By going to much shorter bolts, you will be raising rear ride height of the body and altering suspension geometry, perhaps to the detriment of handling and to your 1/2 shaft joints.
Personally, I'd stay with the 8" bolts, leaving ride height alone, and have the spring shortened if clearance is a real issue with your combo.
Have you checked to see if everything else is going to clear those 1 1/2" oversize wheel widths, body and trailing arms?

The only other thing in the way is the parking brake support which will be moved.
The guy who told me about the shorter bolt is the manager at summit racing and is working on his 1980 vette and showed me pictures- he has not had it on the road yet though and so he doesn't know what affect it will have.
I like your idea of shortening them-I'll have to look and see how much trouble that will be.
I wanted to get the 9.5 rims so I can get as big of tire on there as I can without tubbing it out.

Just so you're aware, any raising of the C3 above factory settings is heading the wrong direction from optimum. Check with Van Steel about shortening your spring. I'd let the guy from summit go his own direction.
