Default 1982 sterring column problem

I just purchased an 1982 Collectors edition with the telescoping sterring column. I hit the high beam switch, and lost my lights. also the high beam indicator was stuck on, along with both turn signals. I starting taking apart the sterring column & removed the blinker assembly and found no problem. After looking further it appears that 2 pieces ( 1 metal & 1 plastic) fellout from somewhere. After these fell out my indicator lights cleared. I think that the metal peice came from the ignition cam assembly? Does this have wires attached that could have been shorting out? Does any one have a drawing.
Help!!

If one of the peices that fell out is made of plastic and about an inch long, with a half moon shape at each end with a groove through the middle its the cam for the highbeam switch.

This is a link to page #1 of my disassembly and repair pictures.

Download it and look at picture #4. I think that the parts you describe are possibly the dimmer switch actuator and the shield.

Reassembly - Dimmer Actuator, and Lock Housing Cover
Install the dimmer pivot to the lock housing cover. Assemble the plastic dimmer rod actuator to the end cap using some heavy grease. The actuator is guided between the end cap and the metal housing and is retained during assembly by the grease on the little square post inside the cap. Without the grease, the actuator is very difficult to hold in place while reassembling the column because the wire rod isn’t exactly tightly fixed in position.

Default 82 Pivot switch assembly

Thanks for the help. Your papers helped alot. Does anyone have a picture of the pivot switch assembly. I think the the one metal peice that I can't locate might be from there. Also I'm not sure on how to remove it or reinstall it?

Refer to the above D&R Page #1, picture #4.

On 1977 and later columns the cover #15 will also contain a dimmer pivot assembly and a dimmer rod actuator which will come with the cover and its end cap. Remove the cover from the housing. Be careful of the end cap and dimmer switch rod actuator. Separate the actuator from the cap by simply pulling them apart. They are held together by grease.

The dimmer pivot is held to the inside of the cover by a pivot pin. Use a punch to remove the pin. The pivot can be pulled from the cover.

These links might show a much clearer picture of the dimmer pivots.
