Re: Mufflers with a deep throaty Rumble??? (vette68)
vette68, I'm not quite sure what you're disagreeing with  We were talking about muffler styles (the big oval ones :D ), not chambered pipes. Chambered exhaust doesn't sound anything like a set of Flowmasters. I love the sound of chambered pipes.

I've got Monza's on mine. They clean up the rear end with twin chrome pipes on each side and they are nice and LOUD! VettePaul.

I have these on my Z71 and have them for my '78 now too.....

Re: Mufflers with a deep throaty Rumble??? (DCLINE)
Everyone so far has got it all wrong. To really get a deep rumble you have to go bigger diameter mufflers and tail pipes. The bigger the deeper the sound. If you really wanted to do it right 3, 3 1/2, or 4 inch mufflers is the way to go. My neigbhor has a 98 Mustang 426 stroker with small tube headers 2.25 duals with 3 inch in and out 50 series flow masters.
One of the local forum members Vettes has 3 inch in and out race mufflers with 3 1/2 tips. You can hear his car idleling down the street in your house. The baddest real killer system that I have seen is the local 67 Camero 509 ci pro streeter with 4 inch pipe and race muffler heart stoppers. :)
Re: Mufflers with a deep throaty Rumble??? (DCLINE)
I'm running stock manifolds with 2 1/4 true duals an H-pipe and 40 series delta flow Flowmasters. I have gotten many great comments on the sound of my vette. A friend of mine even tried to replicate the sound on his 70 Camaro. It doesn't sound quite the same though. I think it may be due to the placement of the mufflers. His are much closer to the front of the car leaving a long tail on the mufflers where as, on the vette, the mufflers are right at the end of the car.
If I could do it all over again, I'd get 3-inch mandrel bent pipes.
