Given my future setup for the 454 big block (see signature), what intake do you think I should use? I plan on revving the engine to 6000-6500RPMs.
I've decided that the Torker II intake is going to hold me back too much so I've decided to purchase an L88 style hood to provide room for a high(er) rise intake. :yesnod:
Here are a few manifolds that were suggested to me:
- Holley Strip Dominator
- Edelbrock Victor 454
- Team G
Now that hood clearance is no longer an issue, what do you suppose would compliment my setup best? :)

Re: Intake Manifold Suggestions? (bence13_33)
Bence13_13: I do not know if the Victor or Victor jr. will fit under your hood (even a L-88) If it will the Victor jr, would be O.K. I have been keeping an eye on your posts and it seems like you have been bitten by the horsepower bug, as we all have at one time. If you are only looking to make 500 horsepower then go with a hydraulic cam and a dual plane intake. The type of intakes you are talking about are for 454's in the 600 H.P range. I would think seriously about spinning a cast crank to those types of rpms (6500) It would be a shame to break something. I have seen head to head tests on the Victor Jr. to the rpm air gap. The air gap made more torque and HP execpt for the very top of the rpm range. The air gap is probably more streetable, and it will fit under an L-88 hood. I am running an airgap on my 454 that makes approximately 600 HP on the motor. My fogger is plumbed into that, the best of both worlds?
i disagree. bence a single plane is not for 600 hp and up. i just put a Team G on my car and i am no where near 600 hp.
first thing i need to know is are you going to be driving this car around town and how much. the more power you make, less reliable it is going to be and the more annoying it is going to be around town. what is the car going to be used for???

Re: Intake Manifold Suggestions? (Vetteboy)
Vetteboy: You are nowhere near 600 HP because you have a smallblock, Bence is running a 454. Bence has to decide how much HP he wants, then build the motor to that. If he wants a stretable 500 HP, then go with a reasonable cam and dual plane intake. If he wants to build the motor to 575 Hp or more than go with a roller cam (Probably solid) and a single plan intake. Understand the bigger cam and the single plane are not going to make the same torque down low, get worse gas mileage, be to some degree less streetable, require more work to keep them on the street, etc. :chevy

Re: Intake Manifold Suggestions? (Vetteboy)
Didn't mean to offend the small blockers, I wish my Saturn had one :) I certainly did not mean to give the impression that small blocks won't make big horsepower. :chevy
bence: if you are going to be street driving a lot you are much better off with the dual plane intake. the are alot more tame on the street from what i understand. i think the air gap is the best dual plane intake out there. I can wait till you post some pix of that bad boy in your car and some track times.

Re: Intake Manifold Suggestions? (Vetteboy)
Bence: I think the cast crank would probably handle 6500 rpms, I know a forged one will. I like to overbuild the bottom end of the motor, if it goes it is soooooo exspensive. If you are trying to save money fine, just don't skimp on bottom end stuff. Make sure you have some good rods and rod bolts also. If you stick to 6000 rpms at around 500 -550 HP the 3/8 rods with upgraded bolts (ARP) will be ok. If you have 7/16 then by all means go with them. :chevy
The RPM air gap is the way to go for a 454 street car. They provide a lot more low end torque than the open plenum manifolds without sacrificing any top end power.
