Default alternator wiring question

i need to temp crank a engine/frame combo..."no body" I want the alternator to charge. Ive hooked them up before but cant exactly remember how.

lead from back of alternator goes to the battery.

the single 2 wire connector on top....1 you have to put a bulb in the circuit and route to the battery terminal. but im unsure what i do with the other wire...ground it?

also...which wire has the bulb for resistance...does it matter?

I hope this makes sense
