Default '80 rewire vs. patch & fix

My '80 sounds like 70+% of everyone else's. ie: nothing works because of wiring issues. I am to the point that I think I'd be better off just starting over. I've done a couple of projects utilizing "Painless Wiring" kits, but realize that there are 1 or 2 more wires on a C3 then there is on a '57 Chevy. Has anyone (obviously someone has) just started over with an after-market wiring harness and was glad....or sad they did?

Most folks who rewire have either done a frame-off restoration [and wanted the wiring to look as good as the rest of the vehicle] or had a wiring catastrophe [fire, etc.] where almost nothing worked. Unless you are in one of those two camps, I'd suggest that you fix what doesn't work....until you can't fix it anymore. Redoing the entire wiring set with the body on the car would be a nightmare.

If you do it, I suggest a harness from a totalled car or a new one that is direct fit. I replaced the engine bay harnesses on my fire project when the motor was out. Pretty easy then.
