It looks like at some point in the past the core support has been replaced. After removing the doors, I can see some separation at the top near the windshield. This initially lead me to believe I could shim the front up to close this gap.
The fenders are bonded soild to the cowl so shims won't help unless you are installing a new front end.
Not.
The fenders bond via extensions which in turn are bonded/riveted to the cowl and firewall. This fact will allow some flexing. This can be seen in action if you jack up the 'Vette in the center of the frame, under the door. The door to fender cap will grow as you jack up, due to frame sag. Minor (1/4 inch or less) adjustments can be made to the upper door/fender gap by shimming up the radiator support or repositioning the frame extensions.

I knew the extensions were their but have never tried to make the gap less only when bonding on a new front end. If I have a chance to need to try this I sure will as I can see how it could make a small change in the gap and sometimes that is all that is needed.
Thanks for the tip
