Default Evaporator box removal

I know that there is another thread about this but i have a different intention and didn't want to pull away from that thread. I am wondering if I can remove the evaporator box and just block off that opening? I do not want the AC in the car and wouldn't mind having the little extra room in the engine compartment. How far am I going to have to go into it? Do I have to remove anything from the inside of the car (under dash)? and are there any problems associated with this project? What else is housed in that area? Thanks for the help

The car is a 76' Stingray if that makes a difference. The one in my picture.

The heater hoses come thru there. Yes you can remove the evap and either make a block off plate or I think you can even buy one now, but it will need to acomodate the heater hoses

I know what you are talking about where the heater hoses go through but where is the heater core? If it is inside the car and it is just the hoses going through the evaporator box then I will be fine and can make the plate.

This is what my 76 looked like when I removed the evaporator box to clean everything out. Looks like you'll need a cover over a few things.
I may go that route some day, but I put mine back in with a new blower motor for now. Those two sausage looking things are the heater core lines going down to the heater hoses to the engine. The air comes through the round opening which is the fan motor and then through the evaporator core and out through the door on the right that opens when you have the AC on.

There is at least one person on the forum that has ordered one. Don't think that he has installed it yet though. He said that you have to call them to order it, I guess they haven't updated their website yet.

Here you go.

Cool, thanks! I currently have the engine out and rebuilding, This will be a perfect time to do the "evap hole" since I gutted what was left of the AC.
