New C3 owner here, and I have a question about the starter. My "new" Vette is a 69 427 with Muncie 4-speed. I'm having starting issues (which sounds pretty common on here), so I'm re-doing all the grounds, and replacing ignition key switch, battery cables and starter.
Problem is with the starter. The one I ordered was apparently correct, and all measurements between the old and new check out except for the "throat" diameter. The old one appears to be 2 5/8" and the new one is 3 1/8". So of course the new one won't fit in the bell-housing?
What do I need to specify in order to get the correct starter; it could be that I have mismatched parts somewhere?
Also, to add a remote cranking switch to the starter, which two connections on the starter do I wire the switch to?
THE STARTER WITH THE CAST IRON NOSE IS THE CORRECT STARTER
396/427`s use this starter, the other with the aluminum nose is for 350`s and 454`s. ...There is also two switches, a early non metric longer switch and the shorter metric one that normally has only two posts instead of three........
