Hey guys. I'm looking for some info on a particular chambered exhaust system. I've read the posts which debate the merits of this system against dynos, flows, and the rest. I'm going for the sound of the classic Chevy hot rod so it's gonna be chambered. What I am wondering is if anyone has tried the system from the guy on Ebay, "hrvette"? It's not stainless like the vendor's but it's a heck of a lot cheaper. I was just curious about installation issues if anyone has tried them. Any thoughts will be helpful.
I talked to him a lot about his stuff. Was going to have him make some custom exhaust for my BB 78. Then things were OBE. I think his pricing is very fair for a complete setup.
I would just buy the chambered sections and hav a custom exhaust system made for your vehicle. Classic Chambered sells the chambered sections at a reasonable price.
Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate all responses. I agree with "Jotto" about the choice, I always hated the "sound" of my stock '92 (is that a Vette coming or a Nissan?) -the '76 has the 330HP crate motor in it, I WILL NOT accept "stock" mufflers!. Definite improvement Jotto, thanks. Please excuse my ignorance Hvymtlc5, but what is "OBE"? And thanks Old Guard 7 for the heads up on "Chambered Exhaust", I linked to their site and saw good prices , I'll have to ask around to see how good a price I can get on bending and installing. Might go that route. Thanks again, and everyone else who is viewing this thread, throw your opinions in! Please!
Do you have stock or after market headers? I had a set of after market headers and bought the header back system from Mid America. It was NOT a simple bolt on and drive. Lots of cutting and welding...a PITA to be honest but worth it. If you have stock headers then installation should be simple. Some thing to consider...
"Do you have stock or after market headers?" I had to think about that one for a while...I mean, I know they're aftermarket, just couldn't remember from who. I remembered that they are Dynomax ceramic coated headers. The engine went in this car 5+ years ago, just now getting back to it...the memory's a bit foggy. Yeah, I knew collector position would be an issue, so going the route Old Guard 7 suggested seems a pretty good idea.
I bought two chambered systems off Ebay, and I am pretty sure it was from this guy. Both sets were fine, no problems, and bolted right up to my stock manifolds. I put the last set on my 70 BB car and it sounds great. It is a bit loud, according to my family, but I like the sound.

Poor quality, poor service, poor fit, but great sound
To be perfectly happy with an exhaust system, you need to hear a live sample and know exactly who makes it. Otherwise you waste your money and/or make compromises to convince yourself that you like the end result.
All ready to install systems are designed for exhaust manifolds and will require pipe fabrication for hook-up to headers. Pipes are usually shipped in longer lengths than needed, so trimming is always required. I've installed chambered systems from Allens and Wilcox and they all fit perfectly. The difference is the manufacturer and I won't buy chambered systems from anybody other than Allens simply because of customer service, fit, and sound. Like I've mentioned in other threads, the number of chambered sections and the number of holes in the inner baffle tubes determine the decibels. Many of these systems appear the same on the outside, but it's what's inside that matters and you need to do the research to avoid dissapointment by having too loud of a system or too quiet for your personal taste.
Many good points ahoover. I'm not sure that I am that discriminatin' however. I've heard several examples of different manufacturers and I like 'em all! A lot of factors that are individual to the car will affect how loud or not she'll be. I think engine setup, exhaust manifold type, etc. will cause subtle differences. Plus, on the inside (where some say it really counts) I plan on installing heat shield under the new carpet so I'm sure that will have an effect on interior sound. All in all I think I'm going to have to "risk it" and pretty much go on what I read on these forums as to what others have been happy with knowing that my situation may end up being somewhat different. Your preferences are appreciated and I will check them out as best I can. I'm not a total cheapskate but cost is a factor as this car is strictly a driver- several compromises being made already because of various conditions that would be too expensive to fix "properly". Just gonna have fun with the horsies and try to stay out of trouble with the man. Again, thanks guys for your input
